Founded in 1972, the National Flute Association was conceived as a common ground for flutists to exchange ideas and inspiration. In the decades since, it has become one of the world’s largest flute organizations, with thousands of members from all 50 states and over 40 countries.
No matter your age or how long you’ve been playing the flute, there’s something to be gained by joining the NFA. Below are a few reasons why the NFA is for every flutist:
The NFA Convention
Ask any flutist about the NFA, and they’ll probably mention our Annual Convention. Of course, we offer a ton of other benefits (keep reading!), but the convention is what most people think of when they think of the NFA.
Each August, the convention brings together thousands of flutists for four days of performances, masterclasses, competitions, and workshops. In between events, guests can wander the lively exhibit hall to shop for instruments, music, and accessories from their favorite vendors.
By changing location each year, the convention has the opportunity to celebrate flutists and flute communities in new locales (this year, we’re headed to San Antonio!). Each convention is built around a theme that ties the programming together, ensuring that each year is a unique experience for all.
The NFA’s 52nd Annual Convention will take place August 1-4, 2024 at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio, TX. Registration and other information is available at nfaonline.org/convention

We are teachers, performers, composers, flute makers, retailers, and concertgoers of all ages. Our members share one common value: a love of the flute.
To sum it all up, the NFA offers something for everyone. We invite you to visit nfaonline.org and learn more about our community.
