Cesar Franck has a very interesting history and connection with the flute and flutists in the time he lived. Marina Piccinini takes us on a journey through Franck’s life, the history of this sonata originally for violin, and gives perspective on how we can make this piece our own.
I. Allegretto ben moderato
Marina Piccinini talks us through practice strategies and pitfalls that we may fall into when practicing the first movement. She speaks about how the piano and the flute part weave together to create beautiful tone colors. She talks about how to achieve a beautiful legato and flexibility in the high register as well.

III. Ben moderato: Recitativo-Fantasia

IV. Allegretto poco mosso
The beautiful fourth movement of this work is filled with soaring melodies and impactful motives. Her insights into how the flute and piano parts work together are imaginative and helps us to understand this piece even better.
