Artyom Dervoed
In this course, Artyom Dervoed teaches advanced technical exercises for the right and left hands! Delving into specific techniques like rasgueados and tremolo, Artyom breaks down each exercise and details exactly how to approach practicing them. Your left hand will get a workout with Artyom’s trill exercises, and the same goes for the right hand with a set of arpeggio drills. He then brings both hands together with lessons in hand coordination, rasgueados, and tremolo. Artyom dissects every movement he makes, addresses musical considerations, and encourages a healthy practice routine.
Arpeggios
What trill practice is to your left hand is what arpeggios are for the right hand – a workout! Using the example of Heitor Villa-Lobos’s Study No. 1, Artyom will help you develop control of the right hand.
Rasgueados
The last part of Artyom’s technique program consists of rasgueados. Rasgueados are very common in Spanish repertoire, but most guitarists don’t know the necessary flamenco technique to play them correctly. In typical classical guitar playing, the fingers move downward. However, rasgueados require the upward movement of the fingers, and this can be quite challenging at first. This technique begins with a total relaxation of the wrist.
Right Hand Coordination
Artyom recommends the exercises in this video to help bring both hands into focus while working together. He uses his AMI fingers in the right hand while moving gradually up the neck in his left hand. Don’t let Artyom’s high technical proficiency stop you from giving it a go! Tremolo
Tremolo requires a balanced and controlled right hand. In this lesson, Artyom discusses how to practice numerous variations of tremolo in order to master each individual movement involved.
Trills
A trill is a rapid alternation between two notes which are often right next to each other on the fretboard. In Artyom’s opinion, trills are also the best workout for the left hand. In these exercises, we’ll start by practicing trills with just one finger at a time and gradually add more complexity as time goes on.
