The piece for solo guitar is among ten works commissioned in honor of Claude Debussy two years after his passing. Among these composers were Paul Dukas, Maurice Ravel, Béla Bartók, and Igor Stravinsky, most of whom wrote music for solo piano. It is curious then that under this umbrella, Manuel de Falla chose to compose his only piece for the classical guitar.
