Eric Wen is recognized as one of today’s preeminent experts in Schenkerian analysis. He has published numerous articles and presented papers at many universities and conferences, including all five International Schenker Symposiums. Wen is the author of Graphic Music Analysis, a textbook in Schenkerian Analysis, and Structurally Sound, a compilation of seven in-depth analyses of works by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Brahms.
Mr. Wen has presented lectures on the practical application of theory to performance alongside pianists Murray Perahia and András Schiff. He has edited a number of performing editions for Carl Fischer Music Publishers, and, as an independent CD producer, has worked with such artists as Edward Aldwell, Benjamin Hochman, Ruggiero Ricci, Aaron Rosand, Gil Shaham, Hagai Shaham, Oscar Shumsky, Arnold Steinhardt, Maxim Vengerov, Pinchas Zukerman, and the Guarneri and Tokyo String Quartets.
He has been a faculty member at the Curtis Institute of Music since 1999 and at Mannes College the New School for Music since 2008. Wen received his bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and his master’s degree from Yale University. He studied violin with Paul Zukofsky and Sally Thomas and studied music theory with Carl Schachter. Wen has been a College Division faculty member at the Juilliard school since 2013.
