The fugue subjects of J.S. Bach—miniature artworks in their own right—provide particularly fertile ground for melodic ear training. Professor of Music Theory at the Juilliard School, Benjamin Grow leads you in sight-singing and sight-reading activities at the keyboard using 24 subjects drawn from Bach's Inventions and Well-Tempered Clavier. Level 3 features labs on 8 of Bach's longer and more intricate subjects. In each lab, Grow walks you through a series of exercises to ground your ear in the given key, before breaking down the subject further in an interactive coaching.
