About This Lesson
Costas Cotsiolis performs and discusses Leo Brouwer’s masterpiece Hika (In Memoriam Toru Takemitsu). After explaining the origins of the name “Hika,” Cotsiolis points out the various cultural influences found in different sections of the piece and proceeds to demonstrate each in a performance of the whole work.
The lesson ends with Cotsiolis’s thoughts on the elements of Brouwer’s music in general and his personal relationship with the composer.
